Meet the Fellows

Sheymi Martinez

This is some text inside of a div block.

Sheymi Molina was born in Guatemala, a country known as “la tierra de la eterna primavera.” At the age of seven, Sheymi and her mother moved to the United States to follow the American dream. As a first-generation undocumented student, Sheymi overcame many obstacles as she navigated college applications and financial aid. Through this journey, she found mentorship from her high school teacher and a career coach at Communities in Harmony Advocating For Learning and Kids (CHALK). Thanks to her mom’s and mentors’ support, Sheymi graduated with a bachelor's degree in Marketing from San Francisco State University in 2023.

Sheymi was a part of CHALK from high school through college, where she worked as a facilitator, gaining many invaluable skills. She learned how to create a curriculum for workshops, work as part of a team, as well as public speaking and event planning for youth programs. From her experience, Sheymi is passionate about helping her community, especially undocumented students who are seeking higher education. Sheymi wants to use the knowledge that she has gained to work in a place helps the immigrant community.

For the DreamSF Fellowship, Sheymi is placed at Refugees & Immigrants Transitions (RIT) where she will support immigrant students. Sheymi will be tutoring, doing translations, and mentoring students. She is excited to start working alongside students and motivate them to seek higher education, just like her mentors did for her.

In her free time, Sheymi likes to spend quality time with the people she loves. She also loves going on hikes, going to the beach, shopping, and trying new types of food.
