Katerine Chung
Katerine Chung was born and raised in the small town of Vacamonte, Panama, and later migrated to the United States by herself in pursuit of "The American Dream." Growing up in a Chinese family in a Latin American country, she developed a multicultural perspective that gave her a deep appreciation for diverse cultural perspectives and the ability to connect with people from various backgrounds. From a young age, her parents instilled in her and her siblings the importance of having an education, working hard, and the value of family. This fueled her determination to keep pushing forward and to never give up.
Following her dreams of achieving higher education, Katerine graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, where she earned a degree in Applied Mathematics in Actuarial Science and Data Analytics, with a minor in Sustainable Design. During her undergraduate years, Katerine actively worked as a data analyst and a recruitment coordinator with bridges, an organization that advocates for underrepresented students of color achieve their higher education goals.
Katerine's passion for data stems from her belief that it tells a compelling story. She hopes to work at the intersection of technology and public policy, using her expertise in data analytics to drive positive social change. She is particularly interested in leveraging data-driven insights to inform decision-making and address complex societal challenges.
Committed to serving the immigrant community, Katerine is a DreamSF fellow who is placed at the Immigration Institute of the Bay Area (IIBA). She assists the organization’s legal team by supporting communication efforts, managing social media content, and contributing to the development of impactful stories from clients and staff.
Outside of her professional pursuits, Katerine enjoys baking, cooking, and embarking on spontaneous adventures. She finds joy in exploring new cuisines and destinations, which complements her love for data and discovery. Katerine's ultimate goal is to leverage her diverse skill set and passion for serving underrepresented communities to make a meaningful impact. Regardless of where she ends up, she hopes to leave a positive and lasting mark with her work.
