Meet the Fellows

Erick Romero

This is some text inside of a div block.

Erick Romero, originally from Guatemala, migrated to the U.S. in 2013. He came to the U.S. with the sole objective of working hard while studying English; a significant moment in his life as an immigrant. While learning English, he fell in love with education, especially in the field of social sciences. He is passionate about pursuing knowledge, and using that passion to pursue a career in legal services.

Erick has a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of California, Davis. Prior to this, he took ESL classes, got a GED diploma, and then attended community college in order to prepare for a four year university. At UC Davis, he volunteered for food pantries and was active in supporting first-generation, undocumented students in college. Erick has also volunteered with the Ambassador of Hope and Opportunity, as it is one of his passions to help his community. In 2022, Erick interned with Prepared Legal Corporation as a file clerk. Ultimately, he hopes to help and encourage others to pursue higher education, despite their legal status.

Erick is a social services enthusiast looking to make an impact in his community. He is interested in social work, non-profit organization outreach, and legal services. He aspires to be a paralegal or pursue a master's degree in social work while continuing to support his community.

As a DreamSF Fellow, Erick is placed with La Raza Centro Legal. His role consists of understanding cases in the Affirmative Immigration Department, like immigration clinics and meetings with collaboratives, partner organizations, and clients. Erick will develop paralegal skills through training under the supervision of highly specialized lawyers.

Erick is a big fan of outdoor activities and has visited several U.S. National Parks like Zion, Glacier, and Hawai’i Volcanoes. He considers hiking his medicine when stressed or having a bad day.
