Janet Lopez Galindo was born in Mexico City, Mexico and migrated to the U.S. when she was 10 months old. Raised in Sunnyvale, CA, Janet moved to San Francisco 6 years ago. She is a political science major at San Francisco State University.

Janet has extensive experience in immigrant rights work. She was an Immigration Law fellow with Immigrants Rising, where she provided legal screenings for the undocumented community. Janet was also a Civic Engagement Fellow at the Institute for Civic and Community Engagement (ICCE) at San Francisco State University. There, she worked as a research assistant on a national research to practice initiative that focused on political learning and civic engagement.

Janet is a member of IDEAS (Improving Dreams, Equity, Access, and Success), an undocumented student organization at SFSU committed to improving institutionalized support in higher education and creating a community for all immigrants. She has co-organized the IDEAS Beyond Borders graduation for four years. Janet is also the co-founder of Ballet Folklorico de San Pancho State that teaches students Mexican folkloric dance.

Janet is completing her fellowship at La Raza Community Resource Center with the immigration legal team to support community members who need legal representation. Janet supports the legal team with legal research, filing with their cases system, interviewing clients, and supporting the attorneys with anything they may need in their cases. Janet is excited to support the efforts of the legal team to provide compassionate legal help and keep families together.

Janet aspires to become an attorney and continue being a writer. She enjoys writing poetry as a form of art and as a method of healing. Her spoken word poem, See Me was featured on the film, Resist: Documenting the Undocumented. She is passionate about staying active, dancing, and playing guitar.
