Hector Moreno Bravo was born in Mexico City, Mexico where he remembers spending hours playing soccer on the street with his neighborhood friends. After Mexico’s economic crisis in 1994, when Hector was only 9 years old, his family struggled financially. Ultimately, his parents decided to move him and his brothers to the U.S. for better opportunities. In 2012, Hector graduated from San Francisco State University with a bachelor’s degree in electronic media. Shortly thereafter, Hector obtained temporary legal status from Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and was able to apply for jobs.

Hector’s first professional job was at a tech startup, where he developed an interest for building software. He first taught himself how to code and build websites and he eventually built entire applications from scratch. One of his projects, DACA Answers, provided updated immigration information for DACA recipients and grew to a scale of 1000 daily users. He is grateful to have learned more about the everyday concerns and dreams of DACA beneficiaries through this venture and hopes to build a service that better serves this group in the future. Today, he continues his journey in IT at CCSF where he will obtain a certificate in Web Security.

In his free time, Hector enjoys reading about technology and non-fiction, volunteering and watching documentaries about historical events.
