Raul Rodriguez is a DACA recipient, pursuing his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in the College of Business at San Francisco State University.

Raul was born in Iztapalapa, Mexico City but heavily embraces and is influenced by his parents’ roots and culture from Oaxaca, Mexico. At the age of 5, Raul’s parents made the decision to pursue a better life for his brother and him by immigrating to the United States, a country that would yield more opportunities. Raul and his family arrived to the small town of Pescadero, California. Upon graduating, Raul attended College of San Mateo where he received an Associates in Arts in Electronic Music, Associates in Arts in Social Science, and Associates for Transfer in Business Administration. Raul transferred to San Francisco State University in Fall of 2017.

At San Francisco State, Raul is involved with student organization I.D.E.A.S., which stands for Improving Dreams, Equity, Access, and Success and is dedicated to advocating for undocumented student rights on campus. This past spring 2018, Raul served as President for the student organization. Raul also dedicates time to helping out at the Dream Resource Center at SFSU by assisting in programmatic functions, conducting outreach, creating marketing materials, and assisting people at events and at the center.

For the DreamSF Fellowship, Raul is currently placed with the Central American Resource Center (CARECEN), whose mission is to empower and respond to the needs, rights and aspirations of Latino, immigrant, and under-resourced families in the San Francisco Bay Area. Raul will be working under the Immigration Legal Program at CARECEN, assisting with different tasks that include form filling regarding DACA, TPS, and other immigration cases.

In his free time, Raul enjoys spending time with his family, going to the beach, drawing on Adobe Illustrator, composing hip-hop beats/instrumentals in FL Studio and Logic Pro X, as well as growing his interest in amateur photography and videography.

Ultimately, as Raul pursues his educational goals, he wants to be a positive role model for his younger brothers as well as give back to his community. Through his fellowship, Raul will get more hands on experience serving the needs of the immigrant community.
