Maria Sevilla grew up in a small town outside of Cuidad Guzman in Jalisco, Mexico. She and her family fled to the United States from her abusive father when she was 5 years old. They settled in the Bay Area where she and her sisters were raised by a single mother. Maria is a second year at the University of San Francisco (USF) with a double major in Business and Politics and a minor in Legal Studies.

At USF, Maria works for the University Ministry office as a Marketing Assistant. She has gained many professional skills and took on many opportunities to grow as a leader by leading social justice trips and supporting immigration initiatives. Maria strives to attend law school to study immigration law after finishing her undergraduate degree. Throughout her professional career, Maria plans to empower the Latinx community by listening and addressing the needs of her community and pursuing policy changes.

As a DreamSF fellow, Maria's placement is with the Mission Economic Development Agency (MEDA). At MEDA, Maria assists their housing initiative which aims to connect people with affordable housing in San Francisco and provide financial coaching.

In her spare time, Maria likes to go to the movies, spend time with her family and dog and try new restaurants.
