Ivan S. Yañez
Ivan S. Yañez, is a current student at San Francisco State University, where he studies anthropology. Born in Guadalajara, Mexico, Ivan migrated to the United States at the age of five to the city of Baldwin Park, California, later moving to Pomona. Once he graduated high school, Ivan pursued higher education by attending community college at Mount San Antonio College, on and off for eight years. In those eight years, Ivan graduated from Mount San Antonio College with an A. A. Degree in Social Behavioral Science and he then transferred out having been awarded multiple scholarships.
Ivan is an individual who is passionate about bettering his community. He believes that education and a better awareness of resources promotes a better quality of life. His involvement with several student organizations like Improving Dreams, Equity, Access and Success (I.D.E.A.S.) and Hermanos Unidos de SFSU, Ivan has learned to lead his community by empowering, giving back, and displaying a positive role amongst his peers.
Ivan’s aspires to have a career in the field of education and to invest in the lives of youth through soccer. Personally, Ivan’s goal is to help low income communities and first generation of children to attend school or higher education. In his free time, Ivan enjoys playing and spectating soccer and he enjoys travel and photography.
For his placement with the DreamSF Fellowship, Ivan is working with the Immigrant Legal Resource Center (ILRC).
