Fany Chan was born in Venezuela to parents of Chinese descent. She later immigrated to the United States when she was 11 years old. Recently, Fany graduated from San Francisco State University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Fany has experiences working with non-profit organizations such as Oasis for Girls and Maisin Scholar Award Program, where she has gained extensive experience in leadership and working as a team. From these experiences, Fany learned to communicate more effectively while simultaneously conducting projects with young women that worked toward building their self-esteem.

Fany applied for DreamSF Fellowship with a strong desire to learn about the city’s involvement in immigration and its policies. Fany hopes to expand her knowledge in working in a non-profit organization, and she also possess a passion for providing support to the San Francisco community that has given her so much. Fany’s goal is to make an impact by sharing her gained expertise from the DreamSF Fellowship with those who are uninformed about the immigration system.

As a DreamSF Fellow, Fany is placed at ASPIRE, a program under Advancing Justice-Asian Law Caucus. Founded in 2008, ASPIRE is the first API undocumented group in the nation that started as a support group for undocumented youth but has grown into an organization that advocates, mobilizes and educates the community about immigrants’ rights. Fany’s role includes logistics for art-in-activism workshops, pop-up galleries and parties, assistance in DACA outreach, and help to track ASPIRE's budget and grant reporting. Fany will build internal capacity and infrastructure to support ASPIRE’s objectives, and increase visibility of ASPIRE’s work and presence in the community.
