Camila Martínez
Camila Martinez Perez was born in Mexico City, Mexico. While she lived in Mexico, her dad provided for her family in the United States. She later migrated with her family to San Francisco, CA at the age of five. Upon arriving in the U.S., she understood that her parents had made a difficult decision to leave their lives in Mexico to provide their family with a better future. Even though Camila faced struggles along the way, she was determined to create a better future for herself. Camila is attending San Francisco State University, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in business marketing.
Camila’s studies sparked her passion for social media, event planning, and community service. Her work with K-Fest Bay Area, where she created social media content, and her outreach campaign with PODER on environmental injustice, ignited her interest in using social media to advocate for immigrant communities. These experiences have driven her to pursue a career where she can blend her skills and passions. Camila's short-term goal is to continue her work with her current organization after her fellowship, while her long-term vision is to launch a social media firm dedicated to supporting non-profits that serve immigrant communities. She aims to leverage social media to bridge gaps and raise awareness about critical community issues through innovative online strategies.
For the DreamSF Fellowship, Camila is placed at Mission Graduates, where she will assist families and youth, mainly focusing on technology mentorship for parents. This work includes providing parents with useful skills for job opportunities, their children’s education, and daily life. This aligns with Camila's personal goals as she gains experience with technology and helps families connect with resources.
In her free time, Camila enjoys dancing, listening to music, playing volleyball, and, most importantly, spending time with her family.
