Gabriela Aguilar was born in Guadalajara, Mexico. She immigrated to California when she was 6 years old. Gabriela is a student at Chabot College in Hayward, California, and will be graduating in Fall 2021. She plans to transfer to California State East Bay to work towards a Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy. She is passionate and dedicated to promoting help-seeking behavior, reducing stigma, and promoting social connectedness regarding mental health in the Latinx community.

Gabriela is inspired to work with non-profits to gain experience in order to advocate for the needs of immigrant women in her community. She is an Immigrants Rising alum. She founded a women's support group, Mother’s Educational Empowerment (MEE), to assist mothers with their educational goals and help navigate through resources available in the community like GED classes and GED books. Gabriela is currently working as an Alameda County Mental Health Navigator and Mental Health Student Ambassador at Chabot College in addition to the DreamSF Fellowship.

As a DreamSF Fellow, Gabriela is placed with Mujeres Unidas y Activas (MUA), she will work on the campaign team. She will also work with members of MUA to gain experience in base-building workshops that guide women to their empowerment.

Gabriela loves spending quality time with her three children and working on her cake business that serves customers all over the Bay Area.
