ialing Huang was born in Guangzhou, China. At the age of eight, she migrated to Mexico with her parents, later coming to the United States at 17 years old. Growing up in three different countries and cultures uniquely shaped Jialing’s understanding of the world and motivated her to fight for underserved communities through social justice advocacy.

She is a student at the University of California, Berkeley, double majoring in Spanish Language and  Literature and Geography, with a minor in Journalism. At UC Berkeley, Jialing served as intern staff for the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) and Undocumented Student Program (USP). Jialing supported first-generation, low income, and underrepresented students by providing and directing them to inclusive and equitable services available on campus. Jialing’s path to higher education has been possible with the help of teachers and mentors. This experience inspires Jialing to go to grad school and pursue a career as an educator in higher education to support underserved students of colors.

For the DreamSF Fellowship, Jialing is placed at the Language Access Unit for the San Francisco Office of Civic Engagement and Immigrant Affairs. Jialing assists with translation and interpretation as well as lending technical assistance such as the Language Access Ordinance (LAO) Resource Library and LAO complaint form.

During her free time, Jialing enjoys taking landscape photography, hiking, cooking or exploring new restaurants around the Bay Area.
