Juan grew up in Sinaloa, Mexico with his mom and twin sister. Growing up with a curiosity for life, Juan wanted to experiment in variety of fields from a young age. At 14, Juan and his family moved to California in pursuit of better educational opportunities. As he started to adapt to a new country and culture, Juan discovered his passion for storytelling, which led him to pursue a Bachelor's Degree in Broadcasting, Film and Electronic Media at San Francisco State University.

At SFSU, Juan produced a student broadcast segment that discussed the current status of DACA, personal experiences of DACA recipients, and the need for a more inclusive DACA program with fellow peers. This experience reinforced Juan’s passion for storytelling, showing him how powerful someone’s voice can be. Through this practice, Juan hopes to breakdown and change the one-dimensional narratives around queer and immigrant struggles and stories.

For the Dream SF Fellowship, Juan is placed at Legal Services for Children (LSC). At LSC, Juan will work closely with DACA-related cases as a paralegal, conducting outreach in schools with students and parents through Know Your Right Presentations, as well as introducing students to ways that they can help the immigrant community.  He hopes to dabble into different aspects of the LSC as well. Ever-curious, Juan enjoys learning new skills like photography, web design, graphic design, drawing, lettering and more! In his free time, as a film major, he spends most of it watching movies.
