Born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico Alberto Owen Cardosa Andrade is a student currently studying history with a minor in engineering at the University of California, Berkeley.

Owen’s story begins when he moved to the U.S. as a twelve year old. Moving to the United States and away from his parental home has been one of the most formative experiences in his life. The experience of living without his immediate family propelled him forward to become a more independent and capable person. Owen likes to think of himself as having been raised by a village because he learned from a plethora of parental figures and friends in his journey to adulthood, especially H the teachers, friends, and role models who have helped him get to where he stands today, for it is due to them that he wants to help others in return.

The DreamSF Fellowship is Owen’s first professional experience. In the past, he has held community managerial jobs which helped him develop leadership and people skills. He worked as a stage manager for school plays at Franklin High School which taught him how to coordinate and deal with large groups of people with diverse backgrounds and jobs.

As for the future, Owen is currently deciding between law school or pursuing a master’s degree in engineering. Owen is passionate about helping people through innovation; whether it be through case law and developing the legal codes or through innovative applications to scientific theory.

Owen’s DreamSF Fellowship placement is in La Raza Centro Legal. At La Raza, is helping the immigration team of attorneys with asylum petitions, defensive asylum cases and family petitions. In his free time, Owen likes to explore new hobbies, locations and things. For instance, he has discovered that he is fond of hiking, archery and adventuring into the depths of California.
