Irma Gonzalez
Irma Gonzalez recently graduated from San Francisco State University where she obtained her Bachelor’s degree in History, with an emphasis on Latin American and United States History. Originally from Mexico City, Mexico, Irma moved to Northern California when she was 10 years old. When she obtained her work permit through DACA, Irma was able to fulfill one of her dreams and participate in the Disney College Program internship in the Spring of 2014. DACA gave Irma the opportunity to work legally and opened up further opportunities that were otherwise unattainable.
As a DreamSF Fellow, Irma is at Pangea Legal Services, a non-profit organization that focuses on serving clients in deportation proceedings. Irma shadows attorneys, helps with translating important documents and works directly to serve clients. An aspiring attorney, Irma has gained valuable skills that she will be able to use in her future career. Irma wishes to pursue her J.D. so that she can better serve her immigrant community.
By gaining experience in immigration law, Irma has realized that there is a significant amount of need to support immigrant communities’ legal needs. She hopes to continue her work at a non-profit and help those who may not have easy access to legal services.
