Alejandra Sanchez came to the United States when she was one year old. From a very young age, her family instilled in her the importance of education and a strong work ethic. Alejandra graduated from San Francisco State University, double-majoring in Biology and Latina/Latino Studies. She hopes to pursue a Master’s degree in Public Health specializing in Global Health in order to utilize her education and life experiences to serve marginalized communities and improve access to healthcare.

As a DreamSF Fellow, Alejandra is currently placed at Asociación Mayab where she is learning about Mayan culture and learning to speak Mayan- Yucateco. For her placement, Alejandra is assisting on a project that identifies the needs of Mayan descendants in San Francisco, and in turn propose solutions within the scope of access to healthcare, education, and other fields.

Additionally, Alejandra  volunteers at a free clinic in the Mission neighborhood of San Francisco where she has gained experience in health promotions, patient advocacy, clinic management, customer service, and grassroots fundraising. When she is not studying, working, or volunteering, Alejandra enjoys spending time with her fiancé, exploring San Francisco, and trying food from all over the world.
